How to purchase a good printer – PIXMA MX876 Canon printer Review

July 2nd, 2010

Are you having a difficulty deciding what is a good printer to purchase ?

I just purchased one for use, and it can be for home office as well . What do I like and not like about this printer ?

Likes:

a) Double sided printing – This is a neat feature as older printer tend to print on one side and this is detrimental to cost saving as well as not to mention wastage on paper.

b) Collating – If you have multiple copies and you want them in sequence to your originall stack of copies, then collating is a useful feature, this was previously available for the bulky office printers only.

c) Wireless – This is good if you have multiple PCs or Mac in your office or home and when you are doing work with the printer, someone else can jump on the queue with a short printing and hey, presto, they are out without having to plug and unplug cable.

d) Plug and play- Using thumb drive and other SD devices or picture storage devises, they can just be plugged in and you can immediately print off the printer without having to hook up to the PC or Mac !

e) Support the Mac – I have a PC but the software installed on my PC , I think it has a MAC option as well.

f) Price – At USD$300, it’s a steal ! I got mine together with a free audio speaker costing USD$50, so it’s a big bargain .

What I don’t like :

a) 5 ink cartridges – Each one costs at least USD$12 , but I think that for the ink type 820, 821, there are re-fillers out that they you can use to fill in for a fraction of the cost. I will use that to offset the cost.

b) The tray opens up when you print automatically, this is irritating as in time, it will wear and tear and I think it will not last 5 years ! If so, I will reap it open and put a manual tray with a small table under it to collect the papers !

c) Some redundant forms like templates for calendar etc … who would ever use these! Or at least not me!

d) It doesn’t come with an ethernet cable ! Cheap skates these fellows – you make sure you have an ethernet cable. Last time when I purchase a Canon, it comes with one, so that your PC can easily hook up with the printer , but not anymore !

e) Warranty – mine comes with 2 years free warranty, they should have 5 years like disk drives! Those fellows are making money from print heads and ink ! I got extra 3 months from online registration , that takes a little sting off.

Well… you have it from a user on MX876 canon printer … enjoy

How to remove Canon Multipass 4 in PC

July 2nd, 2010

Do you have this problem:

1) You go into your Windows “add/remove” program to remove this Canon multipass software and you cannot move pass the screen which says: ” Status Monitoring running. Exit application for the installer to function”

2) You close the status monitoring, shut down the processes under “services” for all your MPservices, which is basically for running the multipass services. Then you hit the remove button again and nothing happens ? What do you do next ?

3)The wizard does not allow you to continue with the software removal and you are wondering why ? Acutally, if you look carefully, you have set the printer to startup on booting up during your initial installation. Although you think you have shut down the processes in the SERVICES menu under MPServices; close your Multiplass Toolbar , there is ONE step missing.

4) You have to go to the Monitor status dialog box, that is , the one that pops up and has the title Monitor status. Right click on it and if you see that there is a check box on Startup , then uncheck it. Saved the step. The removal program will now think that the Monitor status process is NO longer live and will continue the removal wizard steps.

5) Go to the Removal/Add program and try to remove the Multipass now. The wizard will now go through to the end when you select to remove the software completely. Enjoy.

How to solve your online shopping problem when your credit card is good

February 19th, 2009

One of the major frustrations on purchasing online is that you have a good credit card but the merchant processing company refuses to process the purchase. You are left stranded not knowing if your transaction gets through or otherwise. You get irritating messages like:

” You have completed your purchases and we will inform you on the outcome of the purchase.” They never did.

Basically, the back end on this processing company has discovered an issue with your transaction but they will NOT tell you about it.

These could be one of the problems they may have:

1) Your location – you may not be based in USA, and some processing companies “blacklist” certain countries

2) Certain credit cards are blacklisted – most don’t realise it, usually from these blacklisted countries.

3) They say your credit card does not tally with the address – I find this to be silly as most people change their residence from time to time . This is usually their standard answer to you

4)They have a system glitch that they are not telling you

5) Zip code, they really like zip codes, so if you are not staying in USA, make sure you put in your actual location (country) of purchase and this zip code thingy will disappear.

6) Emails- certain merchants don’t like “free” emails account so change to one which is paying. Some doesn’t like accounts like hotmail etc at one stage.

So what can you do to successfully complete your purchase?

a) Make sure that you do a screen capture at every page when you do an online purchase, you will

forget what you key in at the second page. Some merchants have countless pages to fill in.

b) Make sure that you contact the main supplier immediately, and preferably call their 1800 line if you are overseas, use skpye.

c)Nowadays major supplier outsourced their processing to third parties and calling their helpdesk is usually not very fruitful, you just need them to give you a ticket number and also your incomplete order number. Then ask them for the actual telephone number of the third party processing company.

d) Contact this third party processing company and tell them to do a “Manual overwrite” on their system for your order number that was given to you by the merchant. This works all the time, even if you are purchasing from outside of the USA.

Enjoy and have a happy experience the next time round you shop on line. Let me know if you have other solutions that will be useful to the readers who come here.
