How not to lose money in your TrendMicro antivirus renewal

February 21st, 2011

These days, you will receive enticing offers to renew your Trend Micro antivirus software before they are due. Sometimes, these offers come about a couple of months before your subscription is due. The offer can be as high as 30% off your regular price you pay for your software. Since you have already committed to use an antivirus software, and usually we are creatures of habit, so we get lazy to try out other antiviruses like McAfee , Norton or even the Kaspersky antivirus. We just click on the subscription button and pay the dues.

This is where you will encounter a potential loss of good subscription money. If your due date is say 1st June, and you have the offer in May 1st and you activate your account, the new subscription starts on May 1st and NOT on the date of expiry of the software ( 1st June). You would have lost about a month of subscription. If you wait till your expiry, you can be sure that there will be offers around for you to take advantage.

You may argue that since you renew earlier, the new subscription should start earlier. But this is not what I would consider fair. Technically, I would expect the new subscription to start on the day of the expiry of the older subscription but their order fulfillment software is not so updated.

If you want to get the date backdated to your expiry date, be prepared for some not so nice remarks from the customer service chaps. One of them actually told me, you should have known ! Well, now I have known and I am passing on the information to those of you who may be unsuspecting. On a nice day, they will backdate it for you , but not without some hard talking to these folks. If you want to skip the hassle, just look out for a nice discount, and do the renewal on the actual day your sofware expires.

All the best

How to prevent Mobile virus

August 11th, 2010

Recently there is an outbreak of mobile viruses in Russia where a booby-trapped Movie Player application is infecting Android phones ( 10th August 2010 ). The virus caused costly text messages to be sent.

One wonders if there is an effective way to scan for malware in mobile phones these days. I checked up the Trend Micro product listing and found that they have the Trend Micro  Mobile security for Enterprises 5.5. They have a trial version which you may want to try first before purchasing.

They is what they state that the rojans, malware scanning can do: It block viruses, worms , Trojans, spyware and malicious mobile code on handhelds and storage cards ! It performs automatic realt iem virus scan and allows mobile users to initiate manual scans.

Well…it’s no longer the PCs that viruses are going after these days, it is the mobile phones !
